Meet Dr. Carlson
Dr. Carlson is a native Washingtonian raised in Yakima. He attended Washington State University graduating with a B.S. in 1976 and an M.S. in Zoology/Veterinary Pathology in 1977. He then attended the University of Washington School of Dentistry, graduating in 1981. Following graduation he accepted a full time faculty position in the Department of Restorative Dentistry at the University of Mississippi Medical Center where he taught and did research for one year, followed by a year of general practive residency also in Mississippi. From 1983 to 1987 he completed a four-year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency program at the Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon. There was emphasis in the Oregon program on TMJ surgery as well as all aspects of major and oral and maxillofacial surgery including dentoalveolar surgery and dental implants.
Dr. Carlson has maintained a private practice of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery since 1987 and has also taught at the University of Washington Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
He has lectured to Kitsap, Pierce, Seattle-King, Snohomish, Yakima, Benton-Franklin County Dental Societies, The American Dental Association and the Washington State Dental Association on TMJ arthroscopic surgery. Dr. Carlson held the 1990-1991 presidency of the Washington State Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and was a member of the Washington State Insurance Commissioner's Panel on TMJ disorders. He is on the Southwest Washington Maxillofacial Team for Children with Special Needs, providing surgical care for conditions such as cleft lip and palate.
